Qualifications / Experience

Animals have been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. My journey began at 11 years old when I volunteered cleaning rabbit hutches, and by my early teens I had already written my first business plan with the dream of owning a pet care business. Since then, I have spent nearly 20 years gaining experience through employment in the animal industry, volunteering, fostering, and caring for my own animals. My career has included 6 years as a professional dog and cat groomer, time working alongside a vet clinic, managing a busy pet store, and 5 years with the SPCA leading volunteer and foster programmes. Throughout this time I have worked with a wide range of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, livestock, and equines. I have a particular passion for caring for vulnerable animals, especially seniors, and neonates (bottle fed, requiring round the clock care). Although I later moved into the corporate world, my commitment to animal care and welfare never stopped. I continued fostering for cats, rabbits, goats and horses alongside my professional career. Today, through Leila & Co. Pet Care, I am fortunate to return to the industry I love. Combining nearly two decades of hands-on experience with a genuine passion for animal welfare, I am proud to provide calm, compassionate, and personalised care, treating every animal as if they were my own.

About

Hi, I'm Rowena, the owner of Leila & Co. Pet Care. Based in Mahana, I share my home with my partner, two step children and a wonderful collection of animals, including my pride and joy, Leila, who inspired the name of the business. Alongside Leila, we have two cats, a tortoise, two tropical fish tanks, five goats and three horses, so I understand firsthand the commitment, responsibility, and love that comes with caring for animals of all shapes and sizes. As a pet owner myself, I understand how important it is to find someone you can trust when you're away. That's why I focus on providing the same level of care, attention, and respect that I would want for my own animals. Whether it's a cat who prefers quiet company, a rabbit who thrives on routine, or livestock requiring twice daily care, I take the time to get to know each animal as an individual. For me, pet sitting is about more than feeding animals and ticking off a checklist. It's about ensuring your pets feel safe, comfortable, and care for in their own environment, while giving you peace of mind that they're in capable and compassionate hands.
